2021 Alberta Book Publishing Awards shortlists revealed

The Book Publishers Association of Alberta announced the list of finalists for 2021 Alberta Book Publishing Award. The juries selected the shortlisted titles in 13 categories from 109 titles submitted. The winners will be announced during a virtual presentation on the organization Youtube channel September 17th.

The finalists are:

Book of the Year Award – Commercial Fiction

  • Stonehouse editions for Human by Anna Marie Sewell
  • NewWest Press for Banff Gothic Girls by John O’Neill
  • Freehand books for Watershed by Doreen Vanderstoop

Book of the Year Award – Commercial Non-Fiction

  • University of Alberta Press for An autobiography of the autobiography of reading by the brand Dionne
  • NewWest Press for Carried away by the muse: on the way to becoming a filmmaker by Anne Wheeler
  • Eschia Books for Plants of Mother Earth for Health and Beauty by Carrie Armstrong

Robert Kroetsch Prize for Poetry

  • NewWest Press for Lullabies in the real world by Meredith Quartermain
  • University of Calgary Press for The Manhattan Project by Ken Hunt
  • Maison Frontenac Ltée for Nautilus and Bones by Lisa Richter
  • NewWest Press for The weed response by Bertrand Bickersteth

Book of the Year Award – Children and Youth

  • Renegade Arts Entertainment for ABC monstrosity by Karité Proulx
